Refinements in the AIEEE counseling and admission process ushered in by the Central Counseling Board (AIEEE 2011) will keep the non-serious students out of fray this year. This refinement in the form of spot round seat allotment is also aimed at cutting down the number of vacant seats in the NITs, IIITs and government funded institutions, both Central and state from five per cent last year to a targeted level of two percent.
Chairman of the CCB Sandeep Sancheti, also the director, National Institute of Technology, Karnataka told TOI here on Wednesday that since the process of filling up of choices and choice locking in the online process is free, students were 'playing with the system' in the previous years.
To address this issue, CCB this year has reduced the number of online counseling rounds from seven to five. After the five rounds of online counseling, CCB on August 9 will introduce what it terms as 'internal sliding', where candidates already admitted to an institute depending on vacancy, can opt for higher branch of learning based on choices filled by them than what has been allotted to them. The remaining vacancies will be up for grab in the spot round.
Students who may not have got branch of their choice in five rounds can go to CCB website from August 11 to 13 where the final list of vacancies in all the institutes that are part of the counseling is put and go in for fresh filling of choices and locking the same. They would then need to go to their nearest reporting centre, 38 in all across India, get their documents verified and pay a fee of Rs 35,000 or Rs 25,000 upfront and confirm their choice.
